Murray Downs Golf and Country Club

Rated as the Number 1 Golf Course on the Murray River, the championship 18-hole golf course at Murray Downs is a previous winner of Victorian PGA course of the year, and is consistently voted in the top resort courses around Australia (Currently ranked number 47). The course has some great signature holes including the 5th with a long water carry over to the green. The undulating greens are complemented by well-manicured fairways, and thoughtful tee positions and pin placements.

Event format - Single Stableford PLUS Pairs Best Ball

Here's everything you need to know about this 36-hole, weekend golfing adventure:

The Autumn Classic is a 36-hole golf tournament for amateur golfers. The event format for the individual grades is single stableford over two rounds. In addition, there is a team’s 4BBB event to add some extra fun and interest to the tournament. For this, only a team's best stableford score for each hole (i.e. Better Ball) is counted. These are added to make the daily team total. The team with the best total over two days wins the title.

Optional Warm-up

Get your weekend started early with an optional warm-up round. This will be an individual Stableford event, complete with prizes for the day

Saturday

Round 1

Individual Stableford PLUS Team Better Ball Stableford. A Team's best stableford score on each hole counts towards the Team Total.

Sunday

Round 2

Individual Stableford PLUS Team Better Ball Stableford. A Team's best stableford score on each hole counts towards the Team Total.

Rules:

Handicaps: Each pair will play via their official Golf Australia Handicaps, adjusted for the course/slope, etc. Daily results for all players will be entered on GOLF Link and will count towards players’ handicaps. Each player is personally responsible for ensuring that he or she is playing off the correct daily handicap on each day.
Nearest-the-Pin & Longest Drive: will be held as some usual tasty ‘side action’ between teams.
Playoffs: In the event of a tie, a countback will be used to determine the winners.
Note that a player may only win one of the events (teams or singles). If the individual/singles winner is also one of the winning pairs team, then the next-highest-ranked individual score will be named the individual winner - this ensures we have three Champions for the event.
Prizes are awarded to the top Team, plus individual winner.

DAY 2 - Mon, 6 March 2023

Laem Chabang International Country Club

Laem Chabang was designed by the great Jack Nicklaus and features 27-holes with three very distinct 9-hole layouts. The Mountain Nine, the Lake Nine and the Valley Nine offer three superb golfing experiences and some of the most stunning views you will see on a golf course. A true golfers’ course that has hosted over a dozen professional events in the past 20 years, it has been a staple at the SGA Pattaya Golf Week.

DAY 3 - Tue, 7 March 2023

Siam Country Club, Plantation Course

This course was designed by the well-known Arizona-based, Schmidt & Curley Design Inc and opened in March 2008. This was the second Siam CC course completed and is a 27-hole layout. The Plantation name was given in the honour of the historic Sugar Cane, Tapioca and Pineapple plantations in the area with each set of 9-holes is named accordingly. Siam CC has since built the Waterside Course so the facility features three magnificent courses and there is a fourth course being built.

REST DAY - Optional Golf - Royal Gems

This incredible golfing mecca is a replica golf course, located near Bangkok. The front 9 features nine of the great golf holes of the world such as the Road Hole, the Church Pews & the Postage Stamp. The second 9 is a replica of the back nine at Augusta National Golf Club – home of the US Masters. Chee Chan

Chee Chan Golf Resort is an 18-hole championship course situated on 229 acres in a stunning location next to the famed Chee Chan Mountain with the world’s largest Lord Buddha image depicted on the cliff. A major annual highlight on the calendar for many of our golfers, the SGA 2023 Trans-Murray Match Play event is open for bookings!

SGA golfers will return to Canberra for our annual Ryder Cup-style tournament between teams of SGA golfers representing regions North & South of the Murray River.

Just a short three-hour drive from Sydney, and six hours from Melbourne, Canberra has everything our golfers love in an event location: World-class golf courses, high-quality accommodation, and an abundance of after-golf activities and festivities!

The 18 hole championship course features pristine Santa Ana couch fairways and quality bent grass greens which are protected by well-placed bunkers. Gungahlin Lakes Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course characterised by its lakes, creeks and water carries. New schedule: Our 54-hole event will be contested Wednesday-Friday, giving golfers the opportunity to either return home for the weekend, OR to stay over in the ACT for an extended break.

On the Wednesday, golfers will play either Gungahlin Lakes OR a new course on the Rota: Gold Creek Country Club. Day 2 will see you playing the magnificent Royal Canberra, with Federal GC hosting the final round on the Friday as well as the presentation dinner immediately after play.

Arrowtown Golf Club – Ranked # 13 in NZ

The picturesque Arrowtown Golf Club is set in Central Otago, one of New Zealand's most historic and scenic regions. Surrounded by mountains, the 18 hole course has superb views from every fairway. Take time to play golf in this inspiring setting - it's unique! Each hole has its own attraction and the diverse and challenging course attracts players from all over the world. Historic stone cottage ruins nestle amongst towering trees, a legacy of Arrowtown's pioneers. Arrowtown's link with its gold mining past is highlighted in the names of holes: Sons of Fortune and Golden Arrow, which border the once rich, gold bearing Arrow River. Established in 1937 as a nine hole course, the second nine opened in 1970. The course is 5327 meters on the men’s card (par 70 for men, par 71 for women).

Queenstown Golf Club at Kelvin Heights was recently voted New Zealand’s most scenic golf course and is internationally regarded as one of the World’s most picturesque. It is set in the amphitheatre of the famous Remarkable Mountain Range and surrounded by the pristine waters of Lake Wakatipu.
The Course is ‘truly awesome’, offering not only a course that will test your skill but provides a golfing experience you will never forget. Queenstown Golf Club provides a unique challenge with undulating fairways framed by well-established Pine trees. The signature 5th hole playing across the Lake is one of New Zealand’s finest and most photographed.

REST DAY - OPTIONAL GOLF - The Hills – Ranked # 6 in NZ

The Hills, opened in 2007, is set over 250 acres of former deer farm on the outskirts of Arrowtown in Central Otago. Sir Michael Hill’s Private Course, it is regarded as New Zealand’s most exclusive golf club. Laid out on 250 acres on the outskirts of Arrowtown, The Hills has hosted several NZ PGA and Open tournaments since opening in 2007. Its stunning surroundings and condition of the course make it ideal to host major tournaments.

Jacks Point Golf Club – Ranked # 2 in NZ

Set within a 3,000 acre nature preserve on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Jack's Point is an 18-hole par-72 golf course bounded by the Remarkables Mountain Range and Lake Wakatipu. It traverses through wetland to the Lake edge encountering steep bluffs, indigenous vegetation and wildlife. It is designed to work with nature, not against it. Fairways are designed with minimal excavation and careful plantings to complement the natural environment, but also to give the golfer a fighting chance.

Unprecedented three-team playoff decides the 2021 WBC Champions

December 4-5, 2021

A massive, unprecedented three-team sudden-death playoff provided a fitting end to a massive week of golf and fun at the 2021 William Buckley Classic.

Played at 13th Beach Golf Links on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula, the 16th running of the WBC was contested under mostly clear skies, with occasional bouts of the area's notorious "3-club" winds making an appearance on Saturday.

Day 1 ("The Ambush") saw our 16 teams of Bushrangers tee it up at the world-famous Beach Course, which has hosted the Victorian Open for many years. Our two-person Ambrose teams (which were all feeling a bit shaky following Friday evening's festivities) battled the wind as they scrambled for a spot on the leaderboard. When the final putt was drained after day one, three teams found themselves tied at the top on 40 points, with 5 other teams within reach.

Day 2 ("The Assault") proved a much calmer, but no less exciting, affair. Played on the Creek Course, our teams (which were now feeling the full effects of two full nights of the post-golf festivities) worked their way around the beautiful course. As always with our Majors, the tee sheets were a seeded draw, meaning that the last-placed teams teed off first, while the leaders teed off last.

As the final few teams were playing their 17th/18th holes, a quick check of the online leaderboard showed that this race was going to be close. When the final putts were holed, and the scorecards tallied (and re-tallied) it became apparent that an unprecedented sudden-death playoff would be required!

PLAYOFF!

The first-ever play-off in WBC history featured drama, action and good-natured fun. Three teams took the stage in Alternate-shot (Foursomes) action as the gallery watched on.

The first two teams, Jason Pratt & Joe Amenta (The Barwon Heads Sir Robins), along with Gavan Doran & Dean Connell (The Torquay Hookers) teed off on the first hole of the Creek Course. Meanwhile, a third team, Kirk Hayward and Travis Graham (The Point Addis Bashers) -- who had unknowingly (due to a scoring glitch) also qualified for the playoff -- had rushed back to their car to get their gear, shoes, etc.

A double-bogey 6 from the Torquay Hookers saw them eliminated by the Sir Robins' bogey-5. Meanwhile, a MASSIVE tee shot by Kirk Hayward set the Bashers up for success, followed by a stunning chip by Travis Graham to 6 inches to seal their birdie and the win!

Set on the stunning Mornington Peninsula, Moonah Links is famously known for its two award-winning courses, the Open course (designed to host the Australian Open) and the Legends Course (a more forgiving and friendly layout, with still a bit of bite). With a modern Clubhouse and great facilities, Moonah Links is a must-play facility.

Moonah Links Golf Academy

The Moonah Links Golf Academy is an ideal set-up for a golfing weekend with mates. Featuring three separate buildings, the facility can accommodate groups both large and small, and even features use of private practice facilities, including pitching green and putting green. The Main House offers accommodation for up to 11 guests, and serves as the weekend's Focal Point of fun. Meals can be prepared and served from the fully-equipped kitchen, while the house also includes a pool table, BBQ, and flat screen TV with Foxtel. Meanwhile the academy also features two separate villas, each housing multiple bedrooms and a kitchenette, dining table, lounge and TV.

Day 1 (The Advance)

Optional Warm-up (Single Stableford)

Get your weekend started early, (and scout the upcoming field of battle) with an optional warm-up round. We arrange tee-times at a local course, and hold an individual Stableford event, complete with prizes for the day

Day 2 (The Ambush)

Ambrose Stableford (Pairs)

The two-person teams play Two-Ball Ambrose Stableford. A rodeo rule is applied (minimum number of drives). The day's stableford score is recorded as Round 1.

Day 3 (The Assault)

Ambrose Stableford (Pairs)

Team members battle together (side-by-side!) in an all-out assault, playing two-person team Ambrose Stableford, with a Rodeo rule applied. The day's score is added to Saturday's two pairs' scores to create a two-round total.

The William Buckley Classic Format

The William Buckley Classic is a 36-hole siege for teams of two playing two-ball ambrose.
Each team will be assigned a handicap by the organisers on the basis of official Australian handicaps and information supplied by the Bushrangers. The handicapper will be governed by a commitment to rewarding good play according to a player’s ability.

Rules:

Each member hits their shot, then chooses the best of the two, and continues play from there. Teams play their chosen best ball on each shot and may place their ball half a club length (about 50cms) from where the chosen ball lay, no nearer the hole. Balls must be placed in the same cut as the chosen ball. In the interests of fast play from tee to green, teams are NOT required to mark with a tee and precisely measure from the chosen ball as they play each shot. Once on the green, Bushrangers should mark near the chosen best ball so both team members play from near enough to the exact same position.
The event features a Rodeo Rule, which requires a minimum number of drives for each team member. Each team’s rodeo requirements will appear on their scorecard.
Nearest-the-Pin & Longest Drive: will be held as some usual tasty ‘side action’ between teams.

Playoffs:

In the event of a tie, a sudden-death playoff will be conducted. Teams play together as a twosome (taking alternate strokes playing one ball). Teams can determine the order as each member takes their first shot. This order is then continuous and carries over from one hole to the next until the playoff is decided.

Top Aussie professionals, celebrities and amateurs (like YOU) will tee it up at both Moonah Links courses (Legends and Open Course) for the 2021 Victorian PGA Championship and 2021 Victorian Celebrity Amateur Challenge.

This four-round, 72-hole event will see amateurs paired with a professional (two pros and two amateurs) to form a team for the first 2 rounds, playing a Modified Four-Ball Best Ball Nett Stroke event, with the best Nett Stroke score per pair per hole recorded.

After Round 2, there will be a team competition cut to the leading 25 teams. A further cut will be made after Round 3 to the top eight teams playing the final round.

It’s set to be an amazing event, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

ELIGIBILITY - 2021 Victorian Celebrity Amateur Challenge

The Victorian Celebrity Amateur Challenge is open to all amateur golfers with an official GA handicap (including SGA Handicaps) and Golf LINK number which has been valid for no less than 12 months prior to the Tournament. There will be a Daily handicap limit for all amateurs of 25 for Men and 32 for Women. (Amateurs with Daily Handicap above these limits will be adjusted down to meet this requirement.)

The field will be limited to the first 92 pros and 92 amateurs.

Wednesday is the rest day when golfers can have a break or play an extra optional round at Metropolitan Golf Club, the host club of the 2018 World Cup of Golf. For the final round, we will go for the first time to the North Course at Peninsula-Kingswood G&CC, ranked #5 in Australia. 2022 SGA Championships Courses

OPTIONAL WARM-UP ROUND - SUNDAY

Palm Meadows

Palm Meadows was the first golf resort course on the Gold Coast, and pioneered the Australian resort golfing boom. The challenging 350-hectare par 72 course was designed by renowned course-designer Graham Marsh. It measures 6319 metres off the championship tees and the opening and closing holes are rated among the greatest in Australian golf. Water comes into play on 14 holes and there are 82 sand bunkers around the course.

ROUND 1. MONDAY

Links Hope Island

Designed by five-times British Open Champion, Peter Thomson and home to Australian golfing royalty, Peter Senior, Links Hope Island is a must-play on any visit to the region. The course regularly rates among the finest resort courses in the country. When you play at Links, you'll be met with a real sense of welcome and warmth from the time you arrive.

ROUND 2. TUESDAY

Sanctuary Cove - The Pines

As Australia's only Arnold Palmer signature course, The Pines Course is recognised as one of Australia's best and most challenging courses. The Pines is carved through 101 hectares of established pine forest, the course features corridor approaches to several holes, with lakes guarding others. Fourteen of the holes are contoured around six man-made lakes. An abundance of wildlife features on The Pines including rare bird life and scores of native Australian kangaroos.

Brookwater Golf and Country Club

Designed by Greg Norman, Brookwater Golf and Country Club has been voted as Queensland’s number one golf course. The course features undulating greens, natural water features, and long, narrow fairways. The strategic design makes it the perfect environment for golfers of any skill to enjoy a day of premium golf. Brookwater Golf & Country Club is undeniably the most spectacular golf facility in Queensland set to challenge and delight golf enthusiasts of all levels.

Palmer Gold Coast (Robina Woods)

Carved out of 65 hectares of native woodlands, with fairways lined by towering gum trees, Palmer Gold Coast has rapidly developed a reputation as one of Queensland’s best-loved resort courses. Consistently ranked in the top 30 resort courses in the country, Palmer Gold Coast is a 6078 meter, 18-hole, Par 71 championship golf course designed by the Marsh / Watson team. The rolling fairways, manicured greens, and towering eucalyptus are strikingly beautiful and blend harmoniously with the surrounding residential development. A natural water-course featuring lakes, ponds, creeks and native wildlife completes a rare golf course environment.

Lakelands Golf Course

Since opening in February 1997, the wonderful Lakelands golf course has forged a deserved reputation as one of Australia's very best golf courses. Situated in the heart of the Gold Coast adjacent to the luxurious Radisson Resort and next door to Palm Meadows, Lakelands was the first signature designed course in Australia by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. Lakelands is often described as a thinking player's course with a unique Nicklaus flavour to the design.

For this year’s event, we have chosen an amazing assortment of the top Phuket golf courses and accommodation. In addition, we have partnered with an on-ground supplier to assist with golf and transfers.

In essence, we've done the hard yards for you. All you need to do is have fun!

DAY 1 - SUNDAY, JULY 24, 2022

ARRIVAL IN THAILAND

Depart your Capital City via your own flight arrangements.

Arrive in Phuket (either direct or via Bangkok/transfer). Note: Optional extra nights in Phuket are available for those who would like to arrive earlier.

DAY 2 - MONDAY, JULY 25, 2022

Loch Palm

Loch Palm is regarded as the most relaxing course in Phuket. The course is a favourite amongst the locals and the expatriate community as it offers a relaxing game with a variety of challenging hazards and greens to confront golfers of all abilities. Water comes into play on 10 holes and the fairways are lined with oil palms and varieties of Zoysia grass have been used on the fairways and in the rough providing year round playability and great playing surfaces. With over 1,000 palm trees lining the fairways and a cool breeze washing over you from the Crystal Lake, the atmosphere is tranquil and serene, despite the numerous hazards and challenging greens.

That evening, enjoy a Welcome buffet dinner at 8pm, with open bar.

DAY 3 - TUESDAY, JULY 26, 2022

Laguna Golf Club

Laguna Golf Phuket is an 18-hole, par-71 golf course featuring a wealth of scenic lagoons, coconut groves and undulating fairways. After fully reopening in January 2015, the new landscape provides golfers with two distinct scenic experiences with lush tropical foliage on the front nine, while the back holes feature coconut groves and sand bunkers. A scenic surrounds comprising of Phuket Mountains and environmental lagoons, combine to make Laguna Golf Phuket a truly idyllic golf paradise.

DAY 4. WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2022

REST DAY - OPTIONAL GOLF: Aquella or Katathong

Some players will choose to use this day to rest/relax/sightsee.

For those who want more golf, we will go north of Phuket and play either Aquella (a brand-new course, pictured here) or Katathong, which is very picturesque with some interesting holes. (Course still to be finalised)

DAY 5. THURSDAY, JULY 28, 2022

Blue Canyon (Canyon Course)

The Canyon Course at Blue Canyon ranks as one of the most distinguished and prestigious championship courses in Asia. The striking masterpiece is sculpted with minimal disruption to the original landscape of an abandoned tin mine flanked by rubber plantations. The first golf course to ever host the Johnnie Walker Classic thrice in the tournament’s history, in 1994, 1998 & 2007, the Canyon Course is the top venue for major events. It has hosted the Honda Invitational, the BMW International World Final, The Thailand Open, Blue Canyon Tiger Skins & Thai Airways International Thailand Open

DAY 6. FRIDAY, JULY 29, 2022

Red Mountain, plus Closing/Presentation Dinner

Sculpted into the rugged rock terrain, Red Mountain Golf Course is a scenic delight and a true challenge. The par-72 is a highly strategic course, with numerous risk and reward opportunities creating a stimulating test for golfers of all levels. Coursing through 6,781yards, the course cleverly exploits the dramatic landforms and elevation changes remnant of the tin mine. The course is a challenge for even the best golfers from the Championship tees whilst providing a more leisurely challenge from the white tees at 5,900 yards.

That evening, enjoy the Closing Presentation Buffet Dinner at 8pm - with open bar!

DAY 7 - SATURDAY, JULY 30, 2022
