Gold Creek Country Club

A true 18-hole championship layout, Gold Creek CC was designed by well-known and internationally-acclaimed Australian golfer and course architect, Bruce Devlin.  Opened in 1996, the course offers a great test for golfers of all abilities and strategy is key to play well here.

Gungahlin Lakes

Gungahlin Lakes Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course characterised by its lakes, creeks and water carries. Whether it be the water, dogleg fairways or bunkers, each hole has its own unique challenge in getting to the large bent grass greens. The course layout provides an enjoyable yet testing round for all players, rewarding those that approach it strategically. And it provides a fitting challenge for the final round of our event!

Mantra on Northbourne is perfectly located a short walk from the CBD and famous attractions such as Parliament House, the War Memorial and the National Gallery, and only a few metres from the city's thriving shopping precinct, hip bars and cool cafes.  They have Quad-Share accommodation in Two-Bedroom Apartments included in the package with the option to upgrade to a One-Bedroom Apartment (Single or Twin-Share) or a Single Hotel Room.

2026 Trans-Murray Match Play Format

The Trans-Murray Matchplay is a 3-day Teams event pitting teams from North and South of the Murray River. Each day's format mirrors the famous Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup matchplay events, with a combination of pairs (Best Ball and Alternate Shot) and singles matchplay. All golfers of all abilities are welcome to play. (Click here to see past results)

Round 1

Pairs Ambrose

Playing in teams of 2, each ambrose pair posts a stroke score for each hole and the best stroke score wins the hole. If the stroke score from each team is the same, the hole is halved. Teams which have the same handicap will play off scratch together. If a team has one more shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole. Two shots difference = a shot on the two hardest holes and so on. Team captains will aim to match teams with similar handicaps so there are very few shots given.

Round 2

Pairs Alternate-Shot

Teams of 2 playing Alternate Shot with a twist. Players tee off, then team-mates swap drives and hit their second shot with their partner's ball. The team then chooses the best of the two shots, and continue alternating shots with the chosen ball. The best stroke score wins the hole. Teams off the same handicap will play off scratch. If a team has one more shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole and so on. Team captains will aim to match teams with similar handicaps so there are very few shots given.

Round 3

Singles Matchplay

One-on-One Matchplay. Each player is paired against a player from the opposite team. The best stroke score wins the hole. If the stroke score from each player is the same, the hole is halved. Players off the same handicap will play off scratch. If a player has one more shot on handicap, they get a shot on the hardest hole. Two shots difference = a shot on the two hardest holes and so on. Important Notes regarding Golf Carts:

  • Royal Canberra has a limited number of golf carts available. These will be allocated on a first-in-best-dressed basis, with consideration given first to those with a medical certificate, etc.
  • In the event of extreme weather (i.e. a string of days over 35 degrees), the courses may ban all carts (to protect the fairways). Players will be notified in advance.

Bougle Run

Designed by internationally acclaimed Golf Architect Bill Coore, Bougle Run’s 14 holes consist of 12 par-3s and two par 4s which sit on the tall, undulating coastal dunes between Lost Farm’s front and back 9. The route, which includes some of the highest points of the entire Barnbougle complex, is set slightly back from the coastline, providing aerial-like views over the Lost Farm Course and Anderson’s Bay. A fun, challenging addition to Barnbougle’s two world top 100 courses, Bougle Run is designed for golfers of all abilities and the perfect option to sate your golf appetite in just 90 minutes.

Stay on-site at Barnbougle and enjoy the stunning views of the Lost Farm course and surrounding coastline and hinterland. The Lost Farm Lodge provides a stylish accommodation option for those looking to wake up right on course, with each suite only a short stroll to the Lodge Restaurant, Spa, Clubhouse and first tee. Lost Farm Lodge offers two types of luxury accommodation – Single and Double Queen Suites. These open plan, hotel-style rooms provide a choice of views, looking out across Anderson Bay and the Lost Farm Golf Course.

Bougle Run

Tee it up on the 14-hole Bougle Run Short course, from 1:00pm

Day 2 - Saturday

Barnbougle Dunes

Play 18 Holes at the magnificent Barnbougle Dunes, from 8:00am.

Day 3 - Sunday

Lost Farm

Enjoy 20 Holes at Lost Farm, from 8:00am.

Event Format

The Tasman Classic features a Stableford format over the three rounds of the event with an Order of Merit points system, where, each day, player's scores are ranked from first to last. The points for the three rounds are totalled, and the player(s) with the greatest points are declared the winners.

Prizes are awarded to the A, B and C-Grade winners. (Depending on field size)

2024 SGA Tasman Classic Highlights

Notes re: Air Travel to Barnbougle / Tasmania

Commercial flights from around Australia fly in to Launceston, which is a one-hour drive from Barnbougle. Car hire is available at the airport and there is a bus that regularly transfers golfers from Launceston airport to Barnbougle Dunes. There are Travel Directions and Airport Transfers pages with info on the Barnbougle website.

When booking commercial flights:

  • Note that the drive from Launceston Airport to Barnbougle Dunes is a solid 90 minutes. Book your inbound flights accordingly (the night before is generally your best option).
  • We recommend booking your return flight (Sunday) for after 5pm, to allow for golf, presentations and transfer back to Launceston.

NOTE RE CHARTER FLIGHTS:

SGA can, upon request, help arrange private charter flights from Melbourne, via one of our Tour partners.  These flights take less than an hour's flight time, and land right next to the course. Note, however, that the planes require a minimum of 8 passengers, so in order for us to reserve a plane, we require 8 golfers to reserve/book. Please contact us if you would like more information regarding this option.

NOTES RE CAR HIRE

If you are planning to hire a car in Launceston, we HIGHLY recommend you book it WELL IN ADVANCE, as there is a shortage of hire cars in the area. It is also much cheaper the earlier you book.
