SGA Golf Tournaments

SGA Golf Tournaments

SGA operates a broad range of golf events in five States and one event outside Australia. The major tournaments range from 3 to 5 days and we have over 110 one-day competitions as part of The SGA Tour - an annual event series (like the PGA Tour) that we host in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Launceston, Sydney and SE Queensland. Each SGA Tour is a stand alone State-based event series with around 20 events on the annual event schedule. All golfers are welcome to enter any individual event - you can play one event a year or every event on the Tour schedule. The SGA Tour events are official events for players with official handicaps with results entered on GOLF Link, however social players who do not hold a handicap are most welcome to play in the events.

The SGA tournaments held throughout the year which are all stand alone events that all golfers aree welcome to enter. These events are golf vacations for amateur golfers to exciting golfing destinations that range from two-day golf weekends to week-long golfing getaways. These events are all competitions with trophies and prizes, but the emphasis is on visiting great golf courses with like-minded adventurous golfers to enjoy a super golfing experience and socialising before during and after the rounds of golf.

Annual Tournaments & Golfing Getaways hosted by SGA

These events put the social in social golf and are all open to SGA golfers from around Australia to enter and enjoy. Before founding SGA in 2009, Matthew Pitt established Bushranger Golf (BRG). Some of the events here were developed by Bushranger Golf and some have been founded by SGA. The events are all held at the same time each year and Matt hosts and attends them all. Our two premier annual events are The SGA International and The ASGCC (see info below), but all the events are fun and attended by golfers who enjoy a hit and a laugh on great golf courses. Each event has a competition format plus trophies and prizes, but the emphasis is always on enjoying the golf, the company and the experience.

The SGA International - March 1 - 7, 2020

Through our partnership with Golfsavers, we have developed our first event outside Australia: The SGA International. This event has been hosted six times in Pattaya, Thailand and in 2020 it will be held for the 2nd time in Hua Hin, Thailand. Australian SGA staff personally attend and host this event every year and this week is a highlight of our annual event schedule. Each year one lucky golfer wins free entry (inc airfares) to The SGA International. All golfers who attend the SGA Championships (see below) are entered in the exclusive prize draw to win free entry into The SGA International the following year.

SGA Pattaya Golf Week - March 8 - 14, 2020

SGA developed a new event in Thailand in 2020 – The SGA Pattaya Golf Week. We have hosted the SGA International in Pattaya 6 times as this is Thailand's most popular golfing destination. With the SGA International hosted in another venue, we decided to develop a new event in Pattaya.

The week features four rounds of golf and options for an extra round at the Royal Gems Dream Arena. Held after the annual SGA International in Hua Hin, the Pattaya Golf Week package is targeted at golfers looking for an exciting golfing expeience in the perfect location for a golfing holiday.

The SGA Tasman Classic - May 1 - 3, 2020

The SGA Tasman Classic is an event we founded through Bushranger Golf as the Cash & Co Classic (CCC) played annually at Barnbougle Dunes. With the opening of Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes on King Island, we redeveloped the CCC to alternate annually between two of the best golf destinations in Australia – Barnbougle Dunes & King Island. In 2106 we transitioned this event into the SGA stable of events and established The SGA Tasman Classic as a new tournament to be held bi-annually at two Tassie golf destinations that are two of the premier golf destimations in the world.

The SGA Championships - August 16 - 21, 2020

The SGA Championships (formerely ASGCC) is an official National championship owned and operated by Social Golf Australia (SGA). The event is supported by  Golf Australia and the relevant amateur governing golf bodies in each State. The event is a stand-alone championship played annually on the Gold Coast in August each year. In 2019, it will be played from August 18 - 23. Founded in 2005 at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast, the ASGCC attracts social golfers from around Australia every August to compete for a national title.

There are individual awards for grade winners and a four-player team event playing stableford aggregate to determine which social club becomes the national champions. In 2007, Event HQ took over management of the event and in 2009, SGA acquired the event and has continued to grow and develop the tournament. The 2020 event will be held from August 16 - 21 at five of the best golf courses on the Gold Coast with accommodation at the Mantra Legends Hotel in Surfers Paradise. Each year, one lucky golfer at the Championships wins free entry into The SGA International the following year.

The SGA Sandbelt Classic - Sep 27 - Oct 2, 2020

SGA has developed an exciting new event staged on Australia’s most famous golfing precinct, the Melbourne Sandbelt. The inaugural SGA Sandbelt Classic was held from 1 – 6 October 2017 and the host clubs are among the most exclusive in Australia. The event will commence on the number 1 ranked golf course in Australia*, the world-renowned West Course at the exclusive Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The 2nd round will be played at Kingston Heath Golf Club (ranked # 2*) that drew extensive praise from the pros at the World Cup of Golf at the club in November 2016. After a rest day, the field will tee up on Thursday at the host club of over 30 Australian Masters tournaments, Huntingdale Golf Club, followed by the final round at the superb Victoria Golf Club (ranked # 8 in Australia*).

 The SGA Tour

The Social Golf Australia (SGA) Tours are State-based amateur golf tours similar to the professional golf tours. SGA has developed the Tours in five States through our partnership with the Tour Fore Golfers based in South East Queensland. "The Tour" season is a professionally organised series of events with between 16 and 24 rounds played on some of the best courses available. The SGA Tours have been established to offer golfers of all levels an affordable golfing alternative with flexibility and choice, where players can compete for great prizes on a regular basis.

SGA operates separate "Tours" based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth that play on a variety of courses all within 90 minutes of each city. Due to our large group bookings, we are able to secure green fee discounts at some courses that are passed on to our Tour players. Prize costs are included in the entry price for each event and everyone is welcome to join the fun of playing on the Tour. Just like the pro golf tours, each SGA Tour has its own Order of Merit with a Tour Championship at the end of the season. Only the leading players in the Order of Merit are eligible to compete for the Tour Championship at the final event of the year.

Anyone can play on the Tour and simply pay as you play in as many events as you like, but to be eligible to compete for SGA Tour Trophy Events, you need to be a member of the Tour for the year. It is not expensive to join the Tour and being a member has a lot of great benefits. The Tour offers the opportunity to play golf in a social and competitive setting. If you are already a member of a golf club, the Tour can provide you with variety of other exciting courses to play in competitions for great prizes. If you are learning the game, are not a member of a club, don't have a handicap, or are just an enthusiastic golfer simply wanting to expand your social circle, The SGA Tour is a place where you can come and enjoy the game with like-minded people. All enthusiastic golfers are welcome. To find out more about each State Tour, click on the links in the left panel to go to the separate Tour areas of our website.
