Corowa Borrowers bolt to victory at Cobram Barooga

Corowa Borrowers bolt to victory in 2026 Kelly Gang Shootout at Cobram Barooga

A full field of 51 golfers made a gaolbreak for Cobram Barooga Golf Club for the 21st staging of The Kelly Gang Shootout. With partly cloudy skies, and a teeny bit of rain throughout the weekend, the entire field had a barrel of fun.

Despite some late charging up the leaderboard by a few teams on Sunday, none could catch the Corowa Borrowers, who absolutely dominated the weekend (both on and off the course). Congratulations to Simon Dale, Allan McMaster, Seb Raiti and Steven Wilmann, who managed a 34-under-par, 8-shot victory over the field. Next best were the Jerilderie Gents (Ryan Harrison, Glen Walker, Callum Stewart and Wilson Pollock) on 190, with the Benalla Burglars (Gus Engley, Braeden Philpin, Joel Simons and Hayden Ellis) on third with 195

See full leaderboard below, or on the Golf Genius site here.

Thanks to all of our amazing players for joining us on an epic weekend. You were all top-notch. We couldn't have a great weekend like this without you!

Special thanks to the entire team at Sporties Cobram Barooga for hosting us on your wonderful course. Finally, cheers to our sponsors Srixon Australia, MGI, Heathcote Winery, Garmin Australia, Drummond Golf and TCN.

Overall, it was a remarkable weekend of fun and frivolity. We hope to see you all next year!

Alpine Joy at 2026 SGA Autumn Classic

Alpine Joy for 2026 SGA Autumn Classic!

default

What a weekend in the Alpine High Country! 45 golfers were treated to fantastic golf, in a beautiful setting, with some wonderful people. All-in-all, this was our most successful (and fun) Autumn Classic. Well done to everyone for joining us.

Friday - Warm-up Day

An absolute cracker of an afternoon at Bright GC for the warm-up round of the 2026 Autumn Classic - Bright & Myrtleford. The course was in magnificent autumn condition, with the tricky but true greens a highlight. Smiles all around!

Congratulations to the Warm-up Day podium finishers:
George Long - 36 points (CB)
Phil French - 36 Points
Shane Cash - 35 Points

The evening included a welcome dinner at the Bright Chalet, where golfers caught up with old (and new) friends, while enjoying a lovely meal and a few beverages.

Saturday - R1

Immaculate greens, tight fairways and even a pesky ball-stealing crow made for a great experience for all during Round 1 at the lovely Myrtleford GC. Thanks to Brad and the staff, and the Myrtleford members, for making us all feel welcome. We loved your course.

Sunday - R2

Round 2 saw a fresh but glorious morning at Bright GC. Despite overcast skies, and a short sprinkling of early morning rain, the day turned into an absolute cracker. The course was in magnificent condition. And despite not a single bunker on the course, the layout still showed its teeth, and caught some people out.

And though the weekend was all about fun and relaxation, at the end of the day, when the total scores were tallied, some very deserving winners emerged.
Congratulations to the Pairs Better Ball Team Champions, Tony Sturesteps + Kevin Yee (86 points) who pipped Joel Matthews + Jess Vicino (85), and Dave Warwick + Phil French (82 - 3-way countback) .

Congrats to our Individual champion Anthony Moscato (73 points) , who won over Steven Dive and Peter Light (both on 70, on countback) .

2026 SGA Tasman Classic a blast at Barnbougle

2026 SGA Tasman Classic a blast at Barnbougle

Spectacular weather and a stunning golf resort greeted a full field of golfers at the 2026 SGA Tasman Classic. With plenty of sunshine and little-to-no wind for most of the weekend, it was a perfect golf escape, and a bucket-list ticked-off for many.

Friday - R1 - Bougle Run

A simply stunning day in Tasmania for Day 1 of the 2026 SGA Tasman Classic. A booked-out field of 47 golfers from across Australia descended upon Barnbougle for R1 of the event, which teed off at the 14-hole short course, Bougle Run. And though it is a short course, it was anything but easy, with tricky approaches, sloped greens and elevation changes. But it was most definitely a LOT of a fun.

Special note goes to David Gamer, with a HOLE-IN-ONE on the par-3 3rd hole, which garnered plenty of shouts (including at the bar)

2026TasmanClassic-53

After Round, 1, the Leaderboards began to take shape, with the unique Order of Merit points system ranking players throughout the weekend based on their placings for each round.

Saturday - R2 - Barnbougle Dunes

Round 2 of the 2026 SGA Tasman Classic had more of the glorious weather - with the course bathed in sunshine. The day was a corker at Barnbougle Dunes, and the players were smiling ear to ear. The course proved why it is considered one of the world's best golf layouts, with stunning views, challenging risk-reward options, and amazing conditioning throughout. An absolute treat.

Photo Gallery - Round 2 - Barnbougle Dunes

Sunday - R3 - Lost Farm

An overcast but warm morning greeted players on Sunday for R3 at Lost Farm.  With 20 holes, and wide-open fairways, the course was a stark contrast to the rugged Barnbougle Dunes from Round 2. Though the views, conditioning and challenge were all still evident! And while the final few groups saw a bit of drizzle in the afternoon, the real rain stayed away.

Thus, once again, the SGA Tasman Classic featured marvelous golf weather and heaps of fun throughout the weekend.

A heartfelt thanks to all of our players for joining us on this magnifiocent weekend. We loved hosting you all.

Team South edges North by one point in epic 2026 Trans-Murray Matchplay Battle

Team South victorious in epic 2026 Trans-Murray Matchplay Battle

trans-murray match play

It was an epic week of golf for the 2026 Trans-Murray Matchplay, as 68 golfers from both sides of the Murray River returned to Canberra to represent their region, and battle for supremacy in this annual Teams Matchplay event. This was the 13th running of the annual Trans-Murray Matchplay, and Team South was hungry to bring the "Murray" trophy back home, having lost him in 2025.

As always with this event, there was some incredible competition, great sportsmanship, and some truly awesome camaraderie throughout the week.

It was also a tense, epic back-and forth battle!

Day 1

The First day's action (Pairs/Ambrose) at the magnificent Royal Canberra GC, was a friendly yet fierce start to the event. Played under hot conditions (the mercury hit 36 degrees at one point), the players battled hard, but still managed to have great fun. The course was in great condition, with the firm and tricky greens providing a challenge to all players.

After the scores were tallied after Day 1, Team North jumped out to a commanding 12 to 5 lead.

Day 2

Day 2 of the 2025 Trans-Murray Matchplay saw a heap of action at the magnificent Gold Creek, with the lead see-sawing all day. On this day, however it was Team South dominating the pairings.  In the Alternate-shot pairs format of the day, Team South pulled off the largest-ever Day 2 comeback, taking 12 matches to North's 5.

The 2026 TMMP was now All square, with only 1 round to go. It all came down to the all-important Singles matches!

Screenshot 2026-02-20 at 14-47-18 2026 TMMP Canberra Event Tournament Results

Day 3

There was excitement in the air for the all-important Singles matches on Day 3, at the picturesque Gungahlin Lakes. The scoring was tight, and both teams were feeling the pressure.  Both teams aimed to take an early lead, as they knew that EVERY POINT MATTERED.

Following the round, the points were tallied as the players enjoyed drinks, food, laughter and stories of made (and missed) putts from the week.

When the points were finalised, the difference was just ONE POINT! Team South narrowly edged North, 17.5 to 16.5!

As a result, Team South were the 2026 victors, capturing "Murray" with a 34.5 to 33.5 Victory.

Congratulations to Team South!!

Final points:

North 12 5 16.5 33.5
South 5 12 17.5 34.5

Special Thanks

We would like to thank all the competitors (and their spouses/partners/plus-ones) for an incredible week at the 2026 Trans-Murray Matchplay. The success of these events is mostly due to the quality of the participants, and we believe that our golfers are of the highest quality anywhere!

Thanks to our host courses Royal Canberra Golf Club , Gold Creek Country Club and Gungahlin Lakes Club for sharing your wonderful courses. And thanks to our sponsors Srixon Australia & New Zealand, MGI Golf, Garmin Australia, Heathcote Winery and Card.Gift .

Cheshire Militia Pivot Men pilfer 2025 William Buckley Classic

The Cheshire Militia Pivot Men prevail at 2025 William Buckley Classic

The 20th running of the William Buckley Classic saw golfers from across the country descend upon the Bellarine Peninsula for a weekend of fun and frivolity.

Under cloudy skies, with plenty of wind throughout the weekend, the Portarlington, Queenscliff and (Host) Curlewis Golf courses presented our players with a challenging and thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

For the third time in 3 years, a pair of relative newcomers to SGA battled harder than the rest (both on the course, and in the post-round festivities) as they stormed home to victory, taking home the mighty Murrangurk Trophy.

Following a windy day on Round 1 at the lovely Queenscliff GC, a cloudy start for Round 2 at Curlewis gave way to warm sunshine, and the scoring on the magnificent Curlewis layout began to get as warm as the weather.

Many teams jostled atop the leaderboard all day, with one team, The Cheshire Militia Pivot Men (Harley Voelmle & Peter Weedon) breaking through for a victory via a solid 2-day 88 stableford points. Congrats boys! They pipped The Swan Island Hackers (Dean Baldry and Gavin Morris) on 86, followed by The Indented Heads (Anthony Moscato and Michelle Jarvis) on 85. Rounding out the Top-5 were The Torquay Hookers (Kathy Ridley and Zane Ridley) on countback over the fast-finishing The Wild White Men (Rob Robinson and Shaun Condron), both on 83.

2026 SGA Autumn Classic - Event Info

2026 is the 4th running of the Autumn Classic, with the event returning to the magnificent town of Bright. Golfers will play at Myrtleford and Bright golf courses (with an optional bonus round at Bright GC) and stay at the Bright Chalet. The format for the weekend is individual and teams stableford aggregate.

Bright Country Golf Club

Situated at the foothills of the Victorian Alps, the Bright Country Golf Club is considered to be one of Victoria's best regional courses. Nestled alongside the Ovens River, the unique 18-hole course, designed by Tony Cashmore, features a par-72, 6097m easy-walking layout with manicured grass greens and beautifully developed tree-lined fairways. The course is a favourite of SGA Staff ... especially as there are no bunkers! (But don't let that fool you, it is challenging, fun and spectacular.).

Myrtleford Golf Club

Situated in the heart of the beautiful Ovens Valley, Myrtleford boasts an 18-hole course with tree-lined fairways - (some of the River Red gums are reputed to be 300 years old). It is a challenging course with accuracy at a premium on the narrow fairways and small greens. It's another easy-walking course, with most of the fairways being flat -- with only the 9th and 18th being on a hill.

The Bright Chalet

Located just outside of Bright, the Bright Chalet is a third-generation family business, which is popular year-round. Featuring 26 rooms over two floors, the chalet is the ideal home-base for our event. There is a full-service kitchen and dining area, dedicated bar, pool and function area. The rooms are comfortable and fully-equipped with large LCD screens, reverse-cycle air conditioning/heating, refrigerator, en-suite plus access to a balcony, with views of the surrounding mountains.

Event format - Single Stableford PLUS Pairs Better Ball

Here's everything you need to know about this 36-hole, weekend golfing adventure:

The Autumn Classic is a 36-hole golf tournament for amateur golfers. The event format for the individual grades is single stableford over two rounds. In addition, there is a team element (Pairs Better Ball/ 4BBB) event to add some extra fun and interest to the tournament. For this, only a team's best stableford score for each hole (i.e. Better Ball) is counted. These are added to make the daily team total. The team with the best total over two days wins the title.

Friday

Optional Warm-up

Get your weekend started early with an optional warm-up round. This will be an individual Stableford event, complete with prizes for the day

Saturday

Round 1

Individual Stableford PLUS Team Better Ball Stableford. A Team's best stableford score on each hole counts towards the Team Total.

Sunday

Round 2

Individual Stableford PLUS Team Better Ball Stableford. A Team's best stableford score on each hole counts towards the Team Total.

Rules:

  • Handicaps: Each pair will play via their official Golf Australia Handicaps, adjusted for the course/slope, etc. Daily results for all players will be entered on GOLF Link and will count towards players’ handicaps. Each player is personally responsible for ensuring that he or she is playing off the correct daily handicap on each day.
  • Nearest-the-Pin, plus Drive & Chip (NTP in 2 shots): will be held each day.
  • Playoffs: In the event of a tie, a countback will be used to determine the winners.
  • Note that a player may only win one of the events (teams or singles). If the individual/singles winner is also one of the winning pairs team, then the next-highest-ranked individual score will be named the individual winner - this ensures we have three Champions for the event.
  • Prizes are awarded to the top Team, plus individual winner.

Corowa Borrowers burgle 2025 Kelly Gang Shootout

Corowa Borrowers burgle 2025 Kelly Gang Shootout

A full field of 52 golfers made a gaolbreak for Rich River Golf Club for the 20th staging of The 2025 Kelly Gang Shootout. With sunny and clear skies throughout the weekend, the quality of play and raucous good times were on show.

And what a show it was -- especially from regular podium stars Ash Davis, Brendan Davis, Nick Randone and Adrian Dallas who stormed to victory on Sunday, courtesy of some stellar play. Their two-day total of 185, was enough to pip the fast-finishing Benalla Burglars (Gus Engley, Peter Engley, Braeden Philpin and Joel Simons) on 187, and the Jerilderie Gents (Mark Collis, Ben Forbes, Brian Bane and Bryce Amoroa) also on 187.

See full leaderboard below.

Thanks to all of our amazing players for joining us on an epic weekend. You were all top-notch. We couldn't have a great weekend like this without you!

Special thanks to the entire team at Rich River Golf Club for hosting us on your wonderful course. Finally, cheers to our sponsors Srixon Australia, MGI, Heathcote Winery, Garmin Australia, Drummond Golf and TCN.

Overall, it was a remarkable weekend of fun and frivolity. We hope to see you all next year!

2024 SGA Tasman Classic Highlights

Notes re: Air Travel to Barnbougle / Tasmania

Commercial flights from around Australia fly in to Launceston, which is a one-hour drive from Barnbougle. Car hire is available at the airport and there is a bus that regularly transfers golfers from Launceston airport to Barnbougle Dunes. There are Travel Directions and Airport Transfers pages with info on the Barnbougle website.

When booking commercial flights:

  • Note that the drive from Launceston Airport to Barnbougle Dunes is a solid 90 minutes. Book your inbound flights accordingly (the night before is generally your best option).
  • We recommend booking your return flight (Sunday) for after 5pm, to allow for golf, presentations and transfer back to Launceston.

NOTES RE CAR HIRE

If you are planning to hire a car in Launceston, we HIGHLY recommend you book it WELL IN ADVANCE, as there is a shortage of hire cars in the area. It is also much cheaper the earlier you book.
